Amid the growing controversy surrounding the alleged adulteration of laddus at the Tirupati temple, authorities at Odisha’s iconic Jagannath Temple have decided to test the purity of the ghee used in preparing the mahaprasad.

The Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee has decided to conduct periodic checks and develop an SOP to ensure that the prasad being offered to the deities maintains purity and sanctity.

Ghee was used in the preparation of the sacred offering (prasadam) as well as burning a perennial lamp in the shrine.

Puri collector Siddharth Shankar Swain said that though there were no allegations regarding adulteration of ghee used at the temple, administration wants to test the quality to allay any doubts.

PURI: The Odisha government on Tuesday decided to test the quality of ghee used for preparation of offerings at the Jagannath temple in Puri, an official said. The decision was taken amid the row over the alleged use of animal fat in the ghee with which the laddus offered at the Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh are prepared.

Each day, over 3 lakh laddus are made at the Tirupati temple, with pilgrims purchasing them in large quantities, often as gifts for family and friends.
