Jorge Alvarado, who was on life support after suffering a serious injury while surfing in Daytona Beach, Florida, has passed away. Alvarado was 49 years old.

A Volusia County surfer who was in the hospital after a surfing accident has died, the man’s friend told WKMG News6 on Wednesday.

Local surfer Jorge Alvarado passed away Tuesday night after a tragic accident on Friday. Alvarado was surfing the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores when he fell off his board and hit his head on the sandbar. He was then swept under the pier by the current, where a few good Samaritans came to his rescue and pulled him out of the water.

On Friday, September 13th at about 9 a.m. local time, Jorge Alvarado, a Port Orange resident, was reportedly riding waves just south of the Sunglow Pier near the shores of the Daytona Beach Shores. A head injury was suffered while he was in the water.

Tragedy struck at Daytona Beach last Friday, as Florida surfer Jorge Alvarado suffered fatal injuries while riding some waves. According to reports, Alvarado smashed his head on a sandbar and then got tangled with a pier support.
