Southern California’s football program has been fined $50,000 and placed on probation for one year by the NCAA because of multiple violations of coaching staff rules over two seasons.

USC coach Lincoln Riley exceeded the number of staff members allowed to act as coaches and was sanctioned by the NCAA, the organization announced.

As if his third year at USC wasn’t already tumultuous enough, Lincoln Riley is now on probation. On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that USC football has been placed on probation for one year, following a lengthy collaborative investigation that determined the program had violated previously in-place bylaws around analysts engaging in countable coaching activities.

The USC football program faces a $50,000 fine and a one-year probation after violating NCAA coaching staff rules, marking a significant issue in their first season as part of the Big Ten.
