After reported discussions regarding a potential move to the Pac-12, several AAC schools are remaining members of the conference instead. The AAC announced

It makes sense. The Tigers are one of the top Group of Five schools in the country, and any Group of Five (soon to be Group of Six) conference would likely target Memphis. The Pac-12 would have to go after at least one more school, and could look to the AAC — Tulane, UTSA and South Florida are all attractive candidates.

Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, UTSA and the American Athletic Conference released a statement that made no mention of the Pac-12, but several people with knowledge of those talks said the schools had been potential new members.
