Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across various regions in India, including Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, as per the IMD forecast. Monsoon withdrawal continues, while a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal impacts southern states.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted another round of widespread showers for several regions in the coming days.

India's monsoon rains started retreating from the northwest of the country on Monday, nearly a week later than normal, the state-run India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement.

The southwest monsoon has begun its retreat from India, starting from western Rajasthan and Kutch. Despite bringing 5% excess rainfall nationwide, several areas experienced deficient rains. The India Meteorological Department predicts further withdrawal and ongoing widespread rains in various regions over the coming week.

India had received a cumulative rainfall surplus of 5 per cent, with nearly all regions reporting above-average precipitation. But rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon has fallen short of the long period average (LPA) in eastern and northeastern states,

The southwest monsoon generally kicks off in June and starts to retreat by September 17. However, the rains continued this year, which helped to replenish reservoirs but damaged the harvesting of some crops.

As per the IMD weather bulletin, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are likely to have average rainfall for this whole week along with isolated heavy showers from 23 Sept to 26 Sept.
