Jackson ‘Shotgun’ wildfire threatens homes, evacuations in progress (update)
The so-called Shotgun Fire, located in the area of South Stump Tavern Road in Jackson, was first reported at 12:17 p.m. When firefighters first arrived, flames were burning six to eight feet high, across 10 to 12 acres, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
Homes evacuated as wildfire breaks out in Ocean County
South Stump Tavern Road, which contains mostly spaced out single-family homes, is closed. Fire trucks and bulldozers have been deployed to the area, the state Forest Fire Service said. Evacuated residents who need a place to stay can go the township’s senior center on Don Connor Boulevard, Jackson police said.
