AAP leader Atishi took charge as the chief minister of Delhi on Monday, and kept the chair used by her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal empty and "waiting for him", a move the BJP and the Congress said was a "grave insult" to the post.

Atishi is Delhi's third woman chief minister, following Sheila Dikshit of Congress and Sushma Swaraj of the BJP.

AAP leader Atishi officially took charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Monday. However, in a grand gesture for ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal, she placed an empty chair next to hers.

She did not sit on the chair used by Kejriwal and said that his chair would remain unoccupied in the chief minister's office. She sat on a white chair, which was placed next to Kejriwal's chair.
