The study notes that while "prostate cancer is the most common caner among men in the United States . . . modifiable risk factors remain elusive,” while the authors of the study note that “these findings warrant further investigation of these specific pesticides to confirm their role in prostate cancer risk and to develop potential public health interventions.

Altogether, 22 pesticides had associations with upped prostate cancer risk, although the study could not prove cause-and-effect. Three of the pesticides had already been linked previously to the cancer, including 2-4-D, a commonly used pesticide in the United States.

Researchers have identified 22 pesticides consistently associated with the incidence of prostate cancer in the United States, with four of the pesticides also linked with prostate cancer mortality. The findings are published in Cancer.
