In the retention list, Dhoni falls under the uncapped player category as he hasn't been a part of a starting XI in an international match in the last five years.
CSK used the uncapped player rule to retain Dhoni for the upcoming IPL season.
Besides Dhoni, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, swashbuckling left-hander Shivam Dube, and Sri Lankan pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana were the other four players retained by CSK last month.
