Federal agents on Tuesday searched the Washington-area offices of Carahsoft Technology Corp., a major distributor of information technology products to government agencies, according to people familiar with the matter.

The FBI raided the Reston, Virginia headquarters of IT, software and cybersecurity services provider Carahsoft Technology Corp. on Tuesday, according to two people familiar with the matter. The raid was conducted sometime Tuesday morning, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified due to the matter’s sensitivity.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Officials from the Department of Justice arrived at the Reston-based offices of Carahsoft Technology Corporation, the government contractor has confirmed.

The FBI today raided the Reston office of Carahsoft, an IT services and software contractor with about 2,000 employees.

Carahsoft confirmed the DOJ was at its office Tuesday “conducting an investigation” related to a company it’s done business with in the past.

John Weiler, head of the nonprofit Information Technology Acquisition Advisory Council (IT-AAC), told The Register the FBI and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS) had agents on-site at the business's Sunset Hills Road headquarters in Reston, Virginia.

Company president says the agents were there "as part of an investigation into a company with which Carahsoft has done business in the past."

It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted the search.
